10 Things To Prepare for Valentine’s Day

In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day. In the Middle Ages, the day started to be associated with love. In 1375, English poet Geoffrey Chaucer records this day as one of romantic celebration in his poem Parliament of Foules. In 1415 Charles, Duke of Orleans, wrote the first Valentine to his wife. King Henry V did the same a few years later.

Usually, the more time passes since the beginning of a trend, the less popular the trend becomes. But that does not seem to be the case with Valentine’s Day… On the contrary, we seem to be more and more excited about this day every year, with higher expectations that often bring high stress levels and extra life admin.

Luckily, our mission here at Lifefyle is to help you enjoy a stress-free life whether it’s a normal Monday or Monday, the 14th of February. So, without further ado, here is our list of 10 things to prepare for Valentine’s Day and tips on how to keep this celebration of love from turning into a cause of stress.

1. The Right Attitude

Before you start working on your plans for Valentine’s Day, you have to make sure that you are in the right mindset. Remember that this is a celebration of romance so let your heart be your guide.

2. Your Budget

Set a realistic budget for Valentine’s Day. As long as the gifts you choose are meaningful, your loved one will not care about the price tag.

3. Research

What would your partner like to receive or do for Valentine’s Day? If you aren’t 100% sure, don’t be afraid to do a bit of research and ask their close friends for some guidance.

4. A List of Options

After your research, you will end up with a few options to choose from. Make a list and compare it to the budget you’ve set to make sure you are on the right track.

5. The Basics

A Valentine’s card is a must on this day, but you can either buy or make one. Based on your partner’s preferences, add the card to a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates.

6. An Open Conversation

If you know your partner values experiences more than objects, have an open conversation about Valentine’s Day and decide together what to do on this day.

7. Outsourcing Alternatives

Sometimes, no matter how much you would like to do everything yourself, you simply don’t have the time. Find businesses that put together and deliver gifts if you’re busy this week.

8. A Second List of Options

Your partner is currently doing the same thing you are — trying to find a perfect Valentine’s gift. If they ask you what you want, do you know what to reply?

9. Realistic Expectations

Things don’t always go according to plan. And that’s okay! As long as you and your partner are together, your Valentine’s Day will be a success.
